Telehealth has grown rapidly in Canada since 2020 — but for something as important as your health, you deserve to know: is it actually safe? When it comes to medically supervised weight loss, the research is reassuring.

Telehealth Is Mainstream Medicine Now

Canada’s healthcare system has embraced virtual care across specialties — from mental health to dermatology to chronic disease management. Weight management is no different. Platforms like ours operate within the same regulatory framework as in-person clinics: prescriptions are issued only by licensed Canadian healthcare providers.

What the Research Shows

A study of direct-to-consumer telehealth for obesity treatment using GLP-1 medication found that after 50 days, 85.6% of patients reported weight loss of more than 2 kg, with an average loss of 4.9 kg. Adverse events were reported by 39.8% of patients, primarily gastrointestinal issues. Despite adverse events, 86.4% of patients expressed a desire to continue treatment.

This study demonstrates the potential effectiveness and accessibility of direct-to-consumer telemedicine for obesity treatment. The findings support the use of digital platforms for weight management.

The Safeguards in Place

Our platform includes several layers of clinical oversight:

  • Every assessment is reviewed by a licensed Canadian prescriber registered in your province
  • Prescribers follow the 2025 Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines to make evidence-based decisions
  • Only Health Canada–approved medications are prescribed — no compounded or unapproved alternatives
  • Patients with contraindications (such as certain thyroid conditions or a history of pancreatitis) are identified during the assessment and do not receive prescriptions for GLP-1 medications.

What We Don’t Do

Canada’s updated 2025 pharmacotherapy guidelines recommend against the use of compounded medications. We follow this guidance strictly. You will only ever receive a prescription for medications that have been reviewed and approved by Health Canada.

The Bottom Line

Telehealth weight loss care, when delivered by licensed professionals following evidence-based guidelines, is safe, effective, and accessible. That’s exactly what we’ve built.
