Wegovy is a once-weekly injectable medication and one of the most widely prescribed weight loss treatments in Canada. It is Health Canada–approved specifically for chronic weight management.
Wegovy mimics the GLP-1 hormone, which increases insulin release when blood sugar is high, slows stomach emptying, reduces sugar release from the liver, and curbs appetite. Think of it as giving your brain a clear, sustained signal that you are full — a signal that many people living with obesity don't receive as strongly as others.
A once-weekly injection under the skin (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm). Starting at 0.25 mg weekly, the dose is gradually increased every 4 weeks — on a case-by-case basis — to 0.5 mg, then 1 mg, then 1.7 mg, until a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg per week is reached.
